Last week, Solar Team Twente tested their ‘RED X’ on the Lelystad Airport runway.
In October, the team of students will take part in the world’s biggest solar race for the first time in four years, and after winning the title in the Solar Challenge Morocco 2021, the Twente students’ expectations are very high.
The team consists of talented students from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences. They design and build advanced solar cars to push the boundaries of sustainable technology and energy efficiency. The importance of Solar Team Twente lies in their contribution to the development of green mobility, promoting renewable energy and encouraging young engineers to come up with innovative solutions for the future. Their efforts illustrate the possibilities of solar energy and inspire others to make more conscious energy and transport choices.
‘When designing RED X, we numerous simulations. However, to assess the car’s real-life performance, the team executed a process known as parameterisation. For two days, we drove up and down a taxiway at Lelystad Airport, gathering vital information about the car. This information is incredibly valuable for the strategists during the race,’ said Hjalmar Lemmer of Solar Team Twente.
Solar Team Twente is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and Lelystad Airport is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. These test days therefore give a special touch to both anniversaries.
