What are the rules for flying drones near Lelystad Airport?

Flying a drone on or near airports is prohibited in the Netherlands.

However, under certain circumstances, it is possible to fly drones in the vicinity of Lelystad Airport.

In the Netherlands, flying a drone is considered a VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flight. VFR flights are subject to certain legal requirements. Therefore, if you intend to fly your drone in a CTR (Controlled Traffic Region), you need clearance from the tower controller. You must also submit a flight plan, and two-way radio communication (RTF) is required.

For drone flights in the CTRs of Beek, Eelde, Lelystad, Rotterdam, and Schiphol, the following rules apply:

  • At least 24 hours before the flight, you must request (provisional) permission from the Operational Helpdesk of Air Traffic Control the Netherlands. You must submit a mission plan via GoDrone.
  • You must submit a flight plan (mission plan) via GoDrone for each series of consecutive flights within one flight area. For multiple flight areas, you must submit one flight plan per flight area.
  • If the drone lands between two flights for more than 60 minutes (within one flight area), the two consecutive flights are considered as two independent flights. In this case, you must submit a flight plan (mission plan) for both flights and request clearance.
